At this point in my life, I can say with 100% certainty that reality TV is my favorite genre of television. It may seem a bit strange, but something about watching other people live chaotic and hyperbolized lives, or compete under extreme conditions for large sums of money is extremely comforting to me. Reality TV is much like a car on fire, in the way that once you start watching you just can't seem to look away. As someone who has found herself unable to look away, I figured I would share my top 3 reality shows with you just in case you’re in the need of a new source of entertainment.
3. The Bachelor/Bachelorette
At number three we have The Bachelor and all of the shows within the Bachelor Universe, including: The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise. What makes these shows so good is that at least one of them is always airing on live television, which means you are supplied with a constant feed of new episodes and bachelor contestant drama. Although they probably have the one of the lowest success rates of any romance reality show, the drama and romantic ups and downs always leave you rooting for your favorite couple long after the show has ended.
2. Keeping Up with the Kardashians
The number two spot goes to a show that never fails to amaze me, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. This show has recently filmed it’s last season after a run of about 15 years, and it absolutely breaks my heart. As much as I find myself in a love/hate relationship with the Kardashians and everything they do, I am going to miss watching their insane lifestyle and chaotic family dynamic. A funny thing that I have noticed about this show is that even those who dislike or feel indifferent towards the Kardashians, ultimately find themselves way more invested than they should be in whatever major family feud might be happening in the next episode.
1. Love Island (UK)
Finally, at number one is my favorite reality show of all time: Love Island. This show, specifically the UK edition, is PEAK entertainment. My respect for the producers of this show is so immense, because they have created an environment that brings out the both the worst and best in its contestants and makes you wonder if these people have forgotten they are being streamed on tv’s all over the UK. Not only is it a rollercoaster of emotions, but the amount of seasons and length of episodes make this show never ending and perfect for binge-watching, and the accents of the contestants, combined with the show's crude humor make for some absolutely hilarious moments.
