Tips to make this government-issued break worthwhile while also maintaining social-distancing.
Quarantine: time to stay home, eat all of your just-in-case snacks, and watch too much Netflix. This is an easy way to waste the time that you cannot spend with your friends. But, this can get quite boring after a while. When the only thing you want to do is hang out with your friends, it is hard to think of anything else worth your quarantine time. However, there are many other ways to stay productive while also obeying warnings to stay home.
1. Rearrange your room!
You are going to be in your room for quite some time, so you might as well make it a place you want to be in. You can do little things like printing posters, DIY-ing decorations or moving furniture. I can assure you, it makes all the difference. You can really express yourself in a place that is just for you. Current room decor trends are making paintings to hang up, switching up the layout of the room, and my personal favorite: making photo collages of pictures from movies, favorite decades, concerts, times with friends, and anything else to help you look forward to the time after quarantine with your friends.
2. Improve your resume!
Now I know the last thing you want to be doing in isolation is more school-work to add on to the countless assignments that have been given to you through online school, but bettering your resume does not have to be boring. You can do activities that interest and sound fun to you but also make it seem like you spent this quarantine as productively as possible. It’s a win-win situation! You can do anything from starting a blog ;) to taking free online college courses on edX, to even learning a new language.
3. Exercise!
While exercising does not sound like the funnest thing in the world, it is an activity that can be interesting. Exercise is not exclusively doing long sets of push-ups and running miles on end. Exercise is staying active, and can be anything you want. Personally, I have been enjoying long bike rides and doing workout challenges with my siblings. Exercising should be something you enjoy, and if you put in enough work, you are sure to see results!
There are many more ways to use your quarantine effectively and if you have any more suggestions, let us know. This is just how I am coping with the unexpected break and wanted to share. To finish off, I have a riddle from The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien and it is taken from one of the many riddle competitions between Bilbo Baggins and Gollum. Let me know if you know the answer!
Voiceless it cries,
Wingless flutters,
Toothless bites,
Mouthless mutters.
